Jonathan Root, MD

 Jon joined USVP in 1995 as a Ewing Marion Kauffman Fellow in venture capital and became a General Partner in 1997.  Before USVP, Jon was Assistant Professor of Neurology and Director of the Neurology-Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in New York City.  Jon currently sits on the boards of the following USVP portfolio companies:  Cleave Biosciences, eFFECTOR Therapeutics, Inari Medical, Omada Health, OncoMed Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:OMED), Ribon Therapeutics and Route 92 Medical.  He was responsible for the USVP's investments in Castlight Health (NASDAQ: CSLT) Cryovascular Systems (acquired by Boston Scientific), Lutonix (C.R. Bard), MicroVention (Terumo), Proteolix (Onyx Pharmaceuticals) and Sequent Medical (Terumo).  

 

Jon is member of the investment advisory committee of Mission Bay Capital at University of California, San Francisco and former member of the board of directors of the National Venture Capital Association and former Chairman of its Medical Industry Group.  Jon holds an A.B. in Economics from Dartmouth College, an M.D. from the University of Florida College of Medicine and an M.B.A. from Columbia University School Business.
